Dennis Lakusta: Art, Music, Writing

Mission Statement

The Shapeshifting to Kathmandu website represents the Magnum Opus (life's work) of BC artist, musician, songwriter, author, comedian, producer and educator Dennis Lakusta. Dennis, a renaissance man in his own right, has drawn from his Indigenous roots and a lifetime of personal experiences on the road less travelled in an effort to create this beautiful website. The site showcases, not only his amazing artworks but his music and educational materials as well. Being a non-commercial venture, Dennis' expressed wish is that those who visit the site just enjoy and savour the the experience without having to 'buy' something.

The contents of the site (especially the photography and fine art images) will be disseminated world-wide over the coming years to hospitals, prisons, Indigenous communities, hospices, elementary and high schools, universities, etc. as a unique approach to the exciting field of 'art therapy'. The objective of this endeavour is to introduce to a global audience (especially children and adults with issues) Dennis' amazing, inspiring and often mesmerizing images. He has noticed over the years and decades that he has been displaying these images in elementary schools (and especially Indigenous communities), the therapeutic and uplifting effects on children...and the photographic image's abilities to lift viewers out of their problematic circumstances (for even a few moments) and transport them into an imaginary world of delightful and unique characters and creature forms unlike anything they have ever seen before.

A fundraising component is built into the collection as well where high quality prints will be made available as gifts in exchange for donations to local charities and agencies assisting those citizens with homelessness and mental health issues. Other methods of fundraising include (1) licensing to film and dance companies, (2) publishing, (3) calendars and greeting cards and (4) setting up benefit concerts and art shows.

The Shapeshifting to Kathmandu collection and website project are due for launch in mid to late 2026 and will be based in the beautiful and picturesque region of south western British Columbia and Vancouver Island.
